Petzl Spirit Express Quickdraws
These things are tanks! Perfect for sport climbing, but too much chunk for trad or alpine use. They’re about 100g a piece. We ordered 12 of the 11cm variants, and 4 of the 17cm ones.
Why'd you pick these?
There's hundreds of options for quickdraws. There are good and bad things to say about each them. We researched (and used a few different ones climbing outdoors) a lot. In the end, we found that none of it really mattered that much for our first set.
We chose to go for ease of clipping above all else, as that is something we're still learning. And for that, these are perfect. We also like wiregates, but there's nothing like the satisfying clink of a solid gate. They're also deep enough for even the thickest of single ropes.
We’ve been training clipping on our home training wall (the MicroWall™), and they have been great for that. On the other hand, we don't have to haul them a long way up on some gnarly route.
They are high quality quickdraws. They are deep enough, clipping is smooth as butter, and aren't flimsy in any way. They feel like a 1980's Saab. Reliable as all hell. Downside: they're a bit heavy. All that clipping ease and fat dogbonse does mean they're 100g each.
